Withholding tax and TEJ: tracking net payments

When a customer withholds part of your payment, the transfer received does not settle the invoice. Contabli tracks the amount withheld and what is really left to collect.

How it works

  1. 1Open the invoice and record the payment received
  2. 2Enter the withholding the customer applied
  3. 3Keep the withholding certificate
  4. 4Follow the deadlines in the tax calendar

Record the net payment

On an invoice, enter the amount received and the withholding the customer applied. Contabli settles the invoice and keeps a record of the amount withheld.

The certificate, a tax credit

The withholding you suffer is an advance on your own tax. Keep your customer's certificate: it supports the credit in your return.

TEJ, the tax administration's platform

Since 2026, withholding certificates are issued through the tax administration's TEJ platform. Contabli prepares the amounts; the TEJ file is in preparation.

Common questions

From what amount does withholding apply?

The rules depend on the nature of the transaction, the amount and the buyer's status. Confirm them with your accountant; Contabli does not impose a rate on you.

Does Contabli already generate the TEJ file?

Not yet: the TEJ export is in preparation. Contabli already calculates the amounts and deadlines.

What if the customer withholds too much or too little?

The invoice stays open with the remaining balance. Add a message for your customer or a question for your accountant on the document concerned.
